>>>*With a bit of just plain good luck, an on the rather BIG side tree decided to snap and come down right by our house. The good luck part was it went THAT way and not THIS way!

A cedar, it was maybe 30-36" or so across, 80 feet tall, the wind grabbed it and tore it right in half. The thing went down in our canyon, missing our water reservoir by about 10 feet. It did smash our water lines deep into the ground so we have no water at the moment and it's far too dangerous to go down there and do any work yet.

I was sitting in my office roughly 40 feet away from it at the time. Nice storm we had, 11 inches of rain in two days, we have 170 acres under two feet of water, sustained winds in the 60+ MPH range and a few gusts that they tell us was around 90 or so.

Le' and I cooked dinner inside our wood stove in the dark since the power was down all day.

This is only the 2nd storm in my entire life that I have to admit scared me!

Le' took some pics but she hasn't loaded them yet, we still can manage to stay online for maybe a half hour then down goes the power again.......*EB

That was close!!!!

Glad to hear it was a miss.

I have been hearing scattered reports about Washington and Oregon with a lot of snow, water, wind and cold.

Stay safe!!

Better than having the wind/gravity/ants do the work. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

I was taking a nap a few years ago and hear a 'whump' just outside the window; had a dead spruce come down; missed the corner of the house by a matter of inches. The carpenter ants wreak havoc with the old stuff around here.

Nice to hear from you Ted; heard the winds around Newport were clocked at 95 mph. Was thinking about you guys.

Pretty amazing weather down that way. Makes -40F seem pretty tame.

>>>*The water got up about 3 feet over our fields, total of 18" came down in just a few days which is rare around here. Once she goes over the banks there is about 1200 acres to cover and it really came up quickly.

Just one time has it ever been worse, that was the Columbus day storm.

Today the fields are peeking for the first time in well over a week, and NO wind.

Looks like things are getting back to normal, time to go pick up branches and stuff....*EB

Watching water come up that fast is just a little spooky.

Well, the wind shifted to our latitude; forecast has a wind chill factor of -75F just north of Fairbanks for the next 48 hours. Will be keeping an eye on the trees in our neighborhood.

Crazy weather. Hope the '48 doesn't get hammered again like last summer.

You said -75*F? as in 75* below 0*? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> I have never in my life esperience cold like that, it is unimaginable for me.

And to think that I was complaining about the 47* this morning in the good ol' south GA.

-58F ambient this morning. The dog did not dawdle with her bizness.

Yep, you could hear the trees pop. Jumped back up to -44F when the sun came up. I took down a big spruce a few years back where the crack in the tree ended about 30 feet up; dry as a bone.

OOoooooweee- February, baby. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

Oh yeah, got the woodstove goin' and a little roast in the dutch oven on top today. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

When I left Sacramento this morning, it was a cool 52 degrees.

Hour and half later in San Diego, it was 75 degrees.

I'll take the plus side temps..... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

We'll be getting our 70-80 degree days soon enough; ordering bees in about 6 weeks.

If I ever take that RV trip along the WA/OR coast, it'll be in October. +113F sucks as well. At least with -45, the riffraff stay under their rocks. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" />

My friends who are on a cruise in Puerto Rico right now are paying me some nice $$ to keep their place from freezing up. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Oh boy, forecast giving us a high of -15 later this week! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
