Greetings everyone! I just purchased a 1989 V6 Montero from Kirk as a project vehicle and I'm starting to collect parts for the build. I have a Superwinch EPi 9.0 that I plan on mounting to the Monty.
As far as I can tell, options for winch bumpers are pretty limited. ARB used to produce them for the Gen 1, but apparently do not import them anymore? Is Don still selling his bumpers/armor? Any other non-custom options? Thanks.

There is a guy on ebay selling the arb bumpers for the Gen1s, but for the most part custom is the way to go. Here is my bumper that I design and Sandhill radier made fantastically. My winch is going to be in the space between the bumper and radiator. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mitsubishi-Monte...ies&vxp=mtr

ARB did stop importing them but I'd double check with them directly to see if they can still get them. Same goes for Don. You can always modify another bumper to fit or have one built for it. My winch is going to be in the space between the bumper and radiator. IMHO the BEST place for a front winch is down low between the frame rails. You get the added protection in that location and the rig looks almost stock.

Thats what I am talking about behind the bumper between the frame rails. You have even more room if you have a body lift to make it work.

Recon, that's an awesome bumper! I love the look of it. My winch is going to limit options for being "tucked in" closely as it is pretty bulky. It works with the ARB bumper on my Wrangler though which may fit the Monty with a little fab work. I may have to put it against the Monty to see how it would look/work. Here are some pics of what I already own (grabbed off of the net.) ![[Linked Image]](http://www.jeepfan.com/revpost/data/15/EP9iwinch.jpg)

I need to get a better cleaner picture of my bumper but thanks. You will be surprise how much room there is between the frame rails. You can always make a plate and drop the winch to get the vertical height. i want to say there is a little over 22" space.

I picked up an ARB like the one in the picture and had it set up for my Gen 1. There's pics somewhere in the forum with it. Took about two hours of welding/fab to box it in at the mounts to fit the frame. It keeps a good approach angle. It is about an inch too wide on each side but not enough to snag or worry about.
I'm happy with the result.

Just make yourself a bumper. Support isn't the greatest on the Gen 1's, I am going to duplicate for the silver on what I made for the black one, but make it so it fits a winch. ![[Linked Image]](http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt64/fastfoodvw/2012-01-22_17-46-48_58.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt64/fastfoodvw/2012-01-22_17-47-44_813.jpg) there is plenty of room to mount a winch there, and no real worries about airflow either, as the fording deflector is right there protecting the radiator anyway.

Mudraider, those bumpers look very nice! Between your bumpers and Recon's, I'm tempted to break out the welder and attempt to build one. Worst case, it would end up as some badly needed practice and some scrap metal.
I also like the look of the Don bumpers and may contact him to see if they are still being made as I get closer to getting this thing running.
I found the pics of your TJ ARB bumper Pete, and will keep that open as an option.
