It was suggested to me by my bud that if the ABS light is on, any and all traction control type switches may not work in the truck, like the rear diff lock, tranny mode etc...
Can anyone confirm if this is the case?
As always, replies are much appreciated.

Not so on my '95 SR. My ABS is disabled and my transmission mode switch is fully functional and my rear locker works.

I suspect your buddy doesn't have a mitsu. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cyclops.gif" alt="" />
Yup, those work on mine too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

The fuse has been pulled on my 95 since I owned it. No issues.

Ok gents, thank you kindly for the replies.
No, my buddie does not own a mitsu, but he is a professional mechanic, and has seen other cars disable traction stuff if the abs light is on. That is why he suggested it:-)
I'm now thinking that the sunroof leaked on the switches, and they are all fubar:-(
Out of curiosity, why have you all disabled your ABS? Does it not do what it is supposed to do, which is to help one keep control of the vehicle during a hard stop?

My light was on in mine when I got it a couple years ago. I am not sure why. These trucks also had some sort of active suspension/shocks from factory which are no longer on mine (Hard, medium, soft) Therefore this part of system is unhooked and I don't know if this affects it. My truck with 4 wheel disc brakes stops perfectly as far as I am concerned. This doesn't answer your question I know... But I never really liked ABS systems esp when I lived up north in ICE. The ABS is only light on in my truck. 4WD works fine-sometimes things won't want to engage on these trucks if they haven't been used much (Front hub system). 94-95 with 3.5 is a lil quirky as far as motor. DOHC engine is a little more complicated but at same time an awesome motor. My 1995 has around 130k on it. My 1990 LS that my daughter is now driving has around 280k. The bottom end has never been touched in either truck. The heads yes. Heads on 3.0 done at 240 when head gasket blew. The 95 had something done to it before me-dunno what, But it doesn't smoke etc. I did replaced the intake and butterfly set-up at 122k. T-belt and water pump and all front seals this past October. Mitsubishi makes an unbelievible truck. Just not as much aftermarket. But out of the box My LS or SR could hang with and stock jeep-ETC (not to pick on them) (well yes to pick on them). BTW the 1990 is origional Tranny, AC, power everything and yes they still work! Even Cruise LOL!

Thanks for the reply... I owned several jdm diesels while I was in Europe, the LS and new SR are my first gas mitsus. With the SR I just got, the 4x4 High works well, considering it's lack of use by the previous owner. I have not yet tried to lock the front diff, but I will soon.
The ABS and maint reqd lights are on in the SR. All-Data says after 100,000 miles to pull the maint reqd bulb, as is recommended by mitsu, again according to All-Data.
I would like to get to the bottom of the tranny mode switch, and the rear diif lock switch not working.
The SR needs a lot of love, but it starts, and runs well, as long as it doesn't get to idle. Seals are completely shot. But I will be sending it up to oldcolt as soon as I can get the money together for a full service. I do not have the tools, ability or place to perform such a service.
I have 4 new kyb's at my bud's shop, as well as front pads. I will hopefully get to put them in Fri. I am currently driving it to and from work, about a 20 mile round trip m-f with no front right shock. the bracket broke, and the bolt was welded to the shock, which I was not able to save.
Once my LS comes back from it's service, I will park the SR until I can get the big things done on it.
Off topic, I grew up in Sarasota, Bee Ridge area. where abouts you from? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Out of curiosity, why have you all disabled your ABS? I didn't even know my ABS was not working until one day when I had the dash apart and noticed the bulb for the system had been removed. When I put a bulb in, it was on with the truck running, so I took the bulb back out. A previous owner apparently removed the big relay/fuse, whatever next to the battery. I haven't even looked at why the system was disabled. John B.
