The stock Mikuni carb is a POS, and has a rat's nest of hoses associated with it. All the more reason to junk it and replace it with a Weber 32/36. Not when they're set up properly w/out leaking vacuum lines which IIRC is the number one problem other than some bozo not hooking the lines up correctly. I agree with Ray. There are millions of those carb's out there and if properly tune they are just fine. Reminds me of my days dealing with the Volkswagen bug, gotta change the carb to a Weber or it won't run right. BS

I just wish the repair manuals were specific where each one connected too so I can go in a organize the vacuum hoses. Right now it looks like spaghetti and I'm not sure if they are in the right place. I guess I'll go in this evening and go through it. I do plan to get the weber but not for a few months and just to get rid of all this hoses that just confuse me. Probably also make it easier to work on the engine.
I just hope those empty vacuum ports on the carb are suppose to be that way.

Before (rat's nest): ![[Linked Image]](http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/yy319/socal1200r/1989%20Mitsubishi%20Montero/DSCN0606a.jpg) After (vacuum advance and fuel lines, that's it): ![[Linked Image]](http://i803.photobucket.com/albums/yy319/socal1200r/1989%20Mitsubishi%20Montero/Weber2.jpg) You'll be MUCH happier with the Weber...
