In 4th gear (stick trans) at 60 mph, the engine should be revving around 3200 rpm. This is not a problem for the 2.6L.

Fifth gear is an overdrive. I'd run down the road on a normal day with 31" tires at 3500 rpm in fifth with no difficulty.

Yup, what ^ said. I have an '89 SWB, 2.6L, Weber 32/36, 5-speed, with 31s, and it has no problem cruising at 65, and can do 80 all day long. I'll have to look and see what rpms I'm pulling at 60 in 5th, but I think it's around 3000, maybe a little less.
