Getting the Wheeling Fever
After the crank pulley bolt snapped on my beloved 1990 LWB base model, it's taken me this long to find another clean Montero, but I finally did.

I wound up trading my 1998 Subaru for it after finding it by complete accident on Craigslist in Columbia City, IN. Ran a Carfax, and it had one owner until 154k miles, and was always serviced at the dealership it was bought from. It's an LS, so it is a big upgrade from my '88 or my previous '90 in terms of features -- and everything works!

I look forward to being a regular here on the forum again, after such along absence. Cheers!

Welcome back Johnathan. Great job finding such a nice Montero. Love the color combo. What was your forum name back then?

You know, I can't really remember, but I think it may have been Jon_S or something like that.

Here's my old one, for reference. Can't wait to build this one up a little bit, although I'm probably going to go a little less extreme with it (I'm older and its just *too* nice).

I was a little skeptical of the "dealer serviced since new" "one owner" "owned by a little old lady" etc. story, but everything checked out. Heck, the driver's seat looks like no one ever even sat in it!

Though the speedometer did break two days after I picked it up... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

It's hard to say. The Michelin LTX's on it are brand-new, so I can't really justify replacing them right off the bat. I would like to go to a 32 or 33x10.5 AT or mild MT to fill out the wheel wells a bit more, and keep the pretty stock alloys. I don't plan to wheel this one as hard as I did my last one (though it is certainly up to the task) but we do like to do some trail riding, camping, etc.

Also, the girlfriend is bugging me for a bouncy seat on HER side too. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

First things first, though, getting the speedometer working again and replacing the stock speakers!

Indeed. I've checked out so many Monteros in "amazing" or "showroom" condition over the years, only to find out they were complete wrecks, that I was pretty skeptical. My girlfriend said my eyes widened and I audibly gasped when we rounded the corner and I saw the Monte sitting in the p/o's driveway. Well worth the the three hour trip!

That is my favorite Mitsu color combo. I parted out the one similar I purchased for my 40th 'birthday-present-to-myself'...
