One of the things on my bucket list is to swap a 3.0 twin turbo motor in from a 3000GT or Stealth. I've been planning to do this for a few years now but have been too busy! At this point I will probably wait until I buy a nice SR.
It really won't be too hard. The biggest obstacle will be to wire in the TCU into the TT wiring harness to operate the ATX. I've done this on two occasions in other Mitsubishis but never on a Montero.
The 93 Stealth non turbo motor has a crank sensor which is used to fire the coil packs. (technically it sends the signal to the ecm and then mfi to fire the coil packs). The 91-99 6g72 DOHC motors are all very similar. The 91-92's had a different cam sensor that can be used to manually to adjust timing. This can be wired in fairly easily to the 93-99 motors. The 93-99 turbo engines had stronger main girdles that do not become a factor until 700+ HP.
