I wanted to have a decent set of speakers to replace the factory ones, which had completely rotted out (the surrounds were powder), and stumbled on the Kicker DS series, one of the few series I've found that included both 3.5" and 6.5" models. Both have more than enough power handling for my basic 22W RMS Pioneer head unit.

Installation of the speakers took about an hour and a half total. The fronts were the hardest, and BARELY fit under the dash vent tubes, but supplied hardware all worked with a little "persuasion." The plastic encased tweeters rest right up against the dash, but doesn't seem to be a problem. It actually keeps the cone from hitting the dash grilles, a problem I've had with other speakers.

The rears were a breeze. Installation took about 15 to 20 minutes. I clipped the stock connectors, crimped new ones on, and the speakers bolted up perfectly in existing holes.

I've installed quite a few car audio systems, in Montero's and others, and for $70 or so total, these sound excellent. If anyone is looking to upgrade to something "stock plus" quality, I would definitely recommend checking these out. Clarity is phenomenal, low-end is good (thought I'd recommend installing bass blockers or a crossover on the fronts to filter out the heavy lows), and they get plenty loud on the highway with the sunroof and "batwings" open.

Third times a charm.
