I just seen a 96 SR get put up for sale. They said it has a bad head gasket, coolant in the oil. It can run but not recommended to drive hard or long. I want something for my wife but I don't want to bite off too much I can't chew. I'm thinking the worst case is it's cracked. I think I could handle a gasket though. Any suggestions what to look for if I check it out. What would this cost also? TIA

Cost to do yourself or have done? To have done it's essentially an upper end rebuild which for my Gen I 3.0L v6 was ~$2k (also replaced cracked engine mounts). Of course when they do this you'll want them to also replace things like timing belts, water pumps, cam seals. etc. which does drive up the cost due to the extra parts but it's essentially a must do so you don't pay even more to have it done in the near future.
