I found a 4cyl TD Fuso on CL, I was wondering if thats the same 4cyl they used in the Montero? What transmissions could you find here in the US that would work with that engine in our trucks?

I Kinda doubt it... BUT... It would be ultra mega cool if it fit. Get the tape measure out, and start doing some research. It's tough to pioneer a mod, but well worth it in the end... IF it works out. I'm certainly interested.

Body Damage is Cool
Finding parts in the US might be a bugger. Mitsu did make these as 4X4 in certain parts of the world. google Mitsubishi Canter 4x4 - very popular expedition vehicles in Australia. I'd guess the weight of the parts would crush a Gen 1 frame.

2 words decribe it. Big and Heavy. The engine is pretty massive coming in at 3.9L of displacement. It does not share a transmission bolt pattern with anything offered in a smaller US spec vehicle. It may be similar to a 4M40 but that's just speculation.

The trans is close to the Landcruiser trans A442F (AW450 in the Fuso) and the Landcruiser transfer case is (nearly) a bolt up. A few guys are running the mitsu 4D34 in the cruisers, google search Landcruiser 4d34. Now I think the Jatco trans might be a bolt up for the Gen 2 Montero transfer case but i've yet to confirm, either way the big Montero transfer case has a medium duty truck pattern of some type.
The swap is pretty doable and the wiring is really simple, I wouldn't put it in a gen 1 4 cylinder truck unless you plan on doing a SAS or complete Gen 2 front suspension and axles because the torsion bars won't hold the weight and the axles will explode like they were already broken.

Kind of makes me wish I would of removed the transfer case from that SR I had in my garage a few months back... Would that swap be too big for a Gen1 V6 SWB?
