Up until the early 90's, Honda shipped Acuras and Japanese-made Hondas to the US coated in cosmoline.

Nasty stuff to be sure. You'll never get the stain out of clothes that it gets on.

But, you'll also not have a rust problem with a car coming off an overseas trip from Japan either. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Now days, they basically just shrink wrap the whole car, but most of them are assembled in the States now anyhow.
