Getting the Wheeling Fever
Anyone else have a problem finding the M1-105 oil filter for the 3.0? No local retailers seem to have them, or are even able to get them. I finally wound up ordering a 2 pack off of Amazon. So far I've tried NAPA, Autozone (shudder), Advance Auto (shudder, shudder), Parts Plus, and Meijer.

I'm open to other filters, but I've just found that running Mobil 1 all around (oil + filter) seems to cure lifter noise and get me about 6,000 between changes.

Third times a charm.

Personally, I prefer Purolator filters. I know that on the 2.6 engine they seemed to be a better design.

Then again, they are getting to be hard to find.

That was my backup choice, but like you said, even those were an item that would take a day to ship from a warehouse to a store. The joys of owning an obscure 22-year-old truck.

On my SR, both Mobil 1 & K&N looked very similar if not identical.

Probably more than you wanted to know about oil filters.

I considered the K&N but shied away because of my experiences with their air filters (I'm not a fan). I'll read up on them and see what I can find. I know I'm probably being overly anal, but I like running all one-brand for my fluids and filters.

Mobil contracts with a major vendor to have those filters made. Pretty sure they are made by Champion.

The Purolator filter I use on my 4 cly with Mobil 1 is PN PL10193. I think the PN is the same on the V6.

I have 15 years of running that filter with Mobil 1 on my Turbo 4. I will guarantee that my 4 cyl is a lot harder on oil and filters.

NAPA gold = Wix. I think unless you've got disposable income and like the looks or something like K&N I'd just use a decent brand filter. Unless you have a turbo and need perfectly pristine oil at all times I think it is overkill for the stardard 3.0 "family truckster" engine. My 2 cents...

Excellent -- perhaps I'll cast my OCD aside and try out the Purolators next.

Purolator Pur-One, if available, or NAPA Gold for me. Just buy 'em two at a time, they look good on the shelf.
