I have to swap out a leaking fuel tank in my 4Runner. The fuel lines were replaced in 2001 after a rust problem (it is an Ontario truck). I was thinking that I will likely have more problems when i swap the tank so I thought of switching them out to flexible line with AN fittings. Just wondering if anyone has done this and what was required so I can get the parts before I tear into it. Also, any reason why I should not do this?

Why you shouldn't would be if they still look serviceable.

I'm thinking where you might want to be looking is where you transition from the tank to the fuel filter to make sure your fittings would be work, or find a place to place a fitting to bring back to the original line.

I'm seeing alot of stuff out on Jeg's website that would be possible to use.

Where you actually might run into trouble is buggering the wiring harness to your tank pickup. If not replacing it, you'll at the very least need to pick up a new gasket and the screws to swap it over.

I can't remember the last year they quit putting drain plugs on the tanks; if you've got one, you can see it thru the aft end of the skid plate; 17mm.

Last, the older 4R's had an access panel under the RR pax seat to let you get to the tank fuel pump; give a look before you start; if lucky, it'll save some more hassle.

Thanks. My first thought was to release the fuel pump / sender unit from the tank then drop the tank without moving the rest but I'll see how that goes. Do you know what the tube size / threads are for the stock line? Mine looks to have been replaced with hand-bent stock as the Toy parts were too expensive at the time.

I have the underseat access hatch and a tank drain so that will help make it a bit simpler.

Sure don't. I wonder if the material specs are linked to the part number if the dealer looks it up for you.

Nice to know you have the tank access in that generation.

Keep in mind the 4Runners stayed the old body style 1 year past the pickups. the first 4 door hardtop 4Runner was the 1990 model year.

I believe the fittings will be 10-1.0mm. Just use a hex bolt to verify it.
