Just so you know: There is a shaft interlock that prevents the secondary from opening until the primary has opened.

The way I usually test the secondary is unhook it from the throttle and fully compress it. Once compressed place your finger over its port. Release pressure on the rod. If it you have a leak it will end up in its initial position.

And yes, having the secondary working makes a big difference.
