Do any of these V4AW2 mate to the 2.6? WAIT I do see that 1990 does but what is the difference with the 91-97? Some are computer controlled, right? but will it be hard to make it work?

I am building my turbo and I am afraid the MT on my 88 will not hold. I got an extra MT but I am not certain it is an 88, I think that the 88 was a better unit; uh well by a marginal margin for what I have heard. How can I tell if it is an 88?

My limited and partial efforts to help: (References are for US models)

1. Gen II ATs through 94 3.0s are essentially the same, but with Active-Trac t-case.
2. Gen II 3.5 ATs are essentially the same.(?)
3. Gen II 3.0 24V are the same as the 3.5 AT.
4. Gen II MTs through 94 3.0 interchange with Gen I V6s.
5. Gen II MTs 3.0 24V are only 95-96.

Ray, your table shows 97 MT. No such thing in US. 97 was odd year with LS and SR trim, but only 3.5 SOHC. No US MTs behind the 3.5 at all. (Though Charlie said he'd help me remedy that if I get a 3.5 to replace my 95 MT!)

What we need is a way to fit the V5MT behind the 2.6T...

I researched the v5mt to the 2.6. Was hoping the wideblock 2.4's from the pu's had it, but I think they were all v5m21, aka km145, so no luck.

HOWEVER, the v5mt has a removable bellhousing. Perhaps an artful fab guy, you could make a bellhousing to adapt, or do some welding and such on a hacked off 2.6 bellhousing from a junker v5m21.

Charlie and I talked about both of those routes. Since I haven't driven the SWB in a long time now, the KM is still without issues. Plus, I have the 2.85s behind it...

I think the 89-90 4cyl 5spd is the v5m21 designation, which is just another name for the KM145.

The v4aw2 is the hydro 4spd a/t. The v4aw3 is electronic shift. Don't know if the v4aw3 is larger.

KM148/v4aw2's have removable bellhousings. To put a v6 a/t into a 2.6, you just swap the BH, and use the 4cy torque converter. Note that some km148's have lockup tc's, but not the 87-somewhere in 89 models. You have to use the right converter with the right tranny...

Right on the ATs, I was meaning getting a V6 MT behind the turbo. I am looking at a 95 SR- maybe. If I were to get it, a V5MT will get fitted at some point. I's just gots to row my own...
