Here's my current truck build.

I traded my old 3.5 SOHC for a 1988 Montero with 70K miles on it with a bunch of haggard diesel parts. The truck itself is in pretty good shape aside from the paint and the hood (flew away in a dust storm). The 2.3 TD was another story, with a lot of work and almost all new parts i was able to build the engine.

Still need a flexplate before i can do a test start, I also need some random little things like alternator and fan pully.

Looking good! That engine has come a long way since the last time I saw it on your garage floor.

Since i'm having trouble tracking down the flexplate i decided to start working on the transfer case. I got a Dana 20 from LT he was having problems with it popping out of gear, I tore it down and found everything to be in good working order except the detent balls were worn out and had flat spots. I replaced the balls and shimmed the springs, shifts really hard now .
Next was to fit the underdrive i got from NathanC, Luckily LT gave me the Dana 20 adapter as well so i could keep moving on this project (Thanks LT!). It had to be flipped to run on the 20, after a 5-6 hour trial and error I got it clocked and fit correctly. [Linked Image]

Next i'll need to mock up the shifters and install T-case breathers and a sightglass for the B4R underdrive.

First i installed the Atlas twin sticks with their supplied boots but then i got the wild idea about using the boots for a Gen 1 5speed. Wouldn't you know it's like Mitsubishi only made 5 speed Monteros so that we could have factory looking twin sticks in out automatic Monteros!

I'm still playing with the shifter and location for the underdrive shifter, Unfortunately it doesn't look like it belongs but oh well 6.69:1 low range will be cooler than having a nice shifter.

Good job. i think I am going to be able to use my factory 4wd boot with my Tcase set up. Is your rear driveshaft angle going to be steep?

No, the dual cases are about the same size as the stock single case. Because the Gear driven cases are really short.

T-case breathers, fluid sightglass and shifters are all installed now and ready to go! I'll post up pictures a bit later.

Thanks to Haztoyz i now have the flexplate and hardware, gotta get a new starter and take it off the stand for the test start. Maybe i can make a video of that.

So i never seem to have money to buy the starter i need for this build. So i'm doing what i can while saving up, so far i have stripped most of the paint off of the truck down to bare steel and cleaned out the fuel tank.
Stripping paint sucks ass by the way, I don't recommend ever doing this. The plan for paint is yellow/black/brown with a white roof. The base color will be the yellow, the rocker panels will be black, i want a dark brown thick pinstripe on the sides. We'll see what i come up with

The idea came from the 4wd Rally Starion
