Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for hanging with me Phil. This is all new to me. When I went to NAPA, I got alot of blank stares and empty inventory searches. Here, they have to search under Dodge D-50 or Mighty Max, and most parts are, according to their system, obsolete. I did, numerous times, look through the forum parts list, but I got mixed up by looking at old Hanes manuels, and looking at RockAuto for numbers; I literally have a hanfull of numbers of each part. Obviously, part numbering is not very consistent; look on ebay and everything is out the window. I really appreciate any and all help you all can give. Cheers!

Wasn't there a way to get the Wix 1067 from Peterbuilt or Kenworth as well? I vaguely recall someone saying the same filter was used on the heavy trucks.

There's some recent good news on the 1067 filter. a newer Hino diesel is now using that same filter so I've been able to find lots of stock in NAPA warehouses in the US now. They're not cheap but they're worth it.

Johnny, anti-drainback valves are needed for filters that mount horizontally. It keeps the oil from draining out of the filter when the engine sits. An empty oil filter is not good for the engine when you're cranking it. (unnecessary oil starvation)

That's good news, I just used my last filter! I buy 3 at a time from my local Napa dealer. What is "not cheap" now? I think I paid $27 per filter last time.

Do I need to get the 1324 out ASAP! Would this explain my cold starting issues?

Johnny,

If it threaded on properly, you must have a different spec for the oil filter adapter. The 1324 wouldn't fit at all on my engine based on the thread pitch. The lack of an anti-drainback filter shouldn't cause cold starting issues. It would just cause extra wear on the engine over a period of time.

I had a machinist buddy of mine re-thread the filter housing to fit a PH8A (I use NAPA equiv). It has about the same specs as the stock filter. I tried for a long time to find the big filter for my 4D55 (California emissions), and found them for $28 each. When I ran out, I had the oil filter housing re-threaded to fit the much cheaper oil filter (about $7 at NAPA).
