Welcome .... I see your in Prescott too ..
Theres three V6 5 speeds in the J-yard right now matter of fact ... The differant numbers in the trans is about the first gear blocker ring trying to get the composite blocker ring on first gear to work ...Find the trans with the latest number will have the best (sort of) first gear blocker ring in it ...Its a crap shoot the composite blocker ring does not work or last on ever the later trans... I reman my trans with brass blocker rings ...The composite rings are used all through the trans line in those years...
When a automaker comes up with a new tech that they say is better then sliced bread .. And it does not work out right ... They do not back off of it ... They can't say it failed.. They keep dicking with it untill it either works or time takes over and the said part becomes obsolete ...Thing like Ford twin eye beams ..Chev quad-4 motor ..Hondas oval pistons ..Mitsu composite blocker rings.. and so on
I will pay the core if I can have your old trans ...I can reman it ....
