I am looking for a rebuilt 6g72 3.0 for my Mitsubishi Montero, I also need to source a set of exhaust manifolds and rear window weather seals at the base of the window exterior.
I would appreciate any help finding a reputable warrantied rebuilt/re-manufactured engine, the manifolds can be used and in good condition. if anyone knows if Headers were ever made for this model please let me know.
I am rebuilding my 89 LWB Montero and will be posting updates as build develops.
The goal of this build is pretty mild, I want to keep the truck mostly stock with minor upgrades and tweeks to update, the truck will be used for medium off road, trails and Long distance overland trips so keeping MPG and street-ability is key.
planned mods;
manual hubs ARB front bumper snorkel dual battery system roof rack system lift breather lines for drive train
Mods done:
Bilstiens all around K&N (Going Back to Paper) BF Goodrich T/A 31's
Any suggestions or ideas are appreciated.
Any local or area Montero/Raider people please feel free to contact me!
Cheers!

Sounds like a good start!
Other than the obvious awesomeness of the snorkel, why are you installing one?

Aside from the agreed awesomeness, there are 2 reasons.
1. I am building this truck to do some long range trail camping and kayak fishing trips, would be nice to be able to get it in (and out) of places I wouldn't be able to before. Never hurts to prepared.
2. Irony, my neighborhood in Jacksonville FL floods pretty good during storm season, would be help full for getting place other hammerheads get stuck in and pull em out.

Why not rebuild the motor yourself? It is not too hard to do.
I think I remember there being an aussie company that made a header for the 3.0. I thought about getting some local fab guys to make a custom long tube header set up. i am not sure how much benefit it will be.
I would build my own bumper over an ARB bumper. i am curious to see how you do your dual battery build. something I might be looking into. Good luck with the build.

I have never found a good large scale motor rebuilder. Too many monday motors. Way too many problems and shortcuts taken. Too many junk parts. Lots of bad experience on here with them.
If you are relatively handy and do your research and find a good machine shop, you can do a superior job. Or I could build a motor for you.

Two Group 24 batteries were factory with the diesel Montero, right? The second battery mounts diagonally on the left side inner fenderwell, where the divot is pressed. If you have headlight washers, the reservoir is located right in the same spot.
I found good service with a Group 31 battery in my Raider - was adequate for my stereo, CB, and computer needs.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage or tools to rebuild and that would be cost/time prohibitive with cost of tools, motor and rebuild kit I also hope to have the motor in faster than it would take me to rebuild.
the goal is to be budget restoration with only the most bang for the buck mods done.

I thought about getting some local fab guys to make a custom long tube header set up. i am not sure how much benefit it will be. There are a couple of header manufacturers here. I just put a set of used headers in my 3.0 Gen2 along with a tuned exhaust system - about 2 3/8" all the way through, mandrel bends. It's pretty much a waste of money. Slight improvement in high RPM power. Same mileage. Too noisy to drive over 65.

I can make you bumpers and will save you big $ on shipping. ![[Linked Image]](http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt64/fastfoodvw/2012-03-11_18-51-58_822.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://i598.photobucket.com/albums/tt64/fastfoodvw/2012-01-22_17-47-44_813.jpg) Does your motor work? If so, then we should find another and go thru it. Swapping that one in will then be a weekend project. You got my number.
