the crappy part is that there is no core at this time just an empty bay, I blew my old motor on my way back from atlanta, I had a mechanic install a reman motor in it while he was driving the monty following me to the airport to drop off my rental car he seized the motor. unfortunately after having the new motor pulled and returned for refund old core was never returned... on top of that he lost my exhaust manifolds!
SO now I gotta find a already rebuilt motor, my mechanic has a core for a xTerra v6 i hope to be able to use as core... messy I know...

those are nice bumpers but the rear bumper set up is alittle different from the swb. there is a little bit of an over hang piece between the wheel well and bumper that the swb does not have to worry about. i wish i could help you out on the motor. after doing mine i feel i could do it again much easier.

Metal is metal and anything can be done with it. It can all be made to work. No 3.0 to work with, that's a problem.

yeah I know... that is my conundrum the body and running gear are in great shape and I am in for a penny at this point... so I may just have to bite the bullet... I accept that I am putting more than the truck than it is worth, labor of love I guess...

I think everyone here knows exactly what that is about. I could of bought 3 Gen1s for the money I put into my 2 fixing them...

I would start scouring the salvage areas for Gen 1's. Do you have the upper intake and such? Maybe you could look for the 3.0 core. Best to get someone you know to do rebuild. I have a friend who owns a shop in Sarasota. But he charges $! I did my own head gaskets on my gen I and my daughter is still driving it! If you decide to scrap truck let us know 1st.

i haven't found an engine yet! The thing is it might be just as productive to get a later model engine and swap it all in. Any of the later model 3.0's will bolt in, just a matter of swapping engine harness for a later model. There is 3 down in the Daytona LKQ, but I haven't got down there yet.

after long thought and exhaustive parts search I have decided this project does not fit my end goal parameters, I am no selling my Montero and starting from scratch with a newer vehicle.
I will be posting pics soon and looking for reasonable offers for this great project. all it needs is engine and exhaust manifolds!

As I suggested on the ExPo, you ought to consider gen II or III which are available globally for touring Central & S. America instead of the Tacoma which is a US only rig.
