I have had it drivable for a week or so but I finally had some time to install a wideband and do my final tuning. This is Stage 1 of my project so it's still NA but with a Starion TBI and Megasquirt. Quite impressed with the results thus far. Considerably more power than my Weber 38 powered Mighty Max and gas mileage already seems vastly improved. I've put around 40 miles on it tuning (much at wide open throttle) and my fuel gauge has barely moved. I was lucky to 220 miles per tank before babying it. As it sits I tuned for a 12.5 AFR at WOT and left it around 14.7 for cruise. Will eventually start bumping the cruise AFR leaner to pump more MPG's out but I want to run a full tank as it sits to see how it does. Hopefully she'll be happy with Regular fuel now instead of the Premium I had to run with the Mikuni <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

A build thread will be posted once I have time to pull my thoughts and photos together. My turbo longblock is ready to go but I'll likely save that for the winter. Actually enjoy driving it as is now with the rejuvinated power.

Would be interested in seeing a more detailed "how to" on this project. I have a Weber 32/36 on my otherwise stock 2.6, and it's about 95% dialed in. I think it's about as good as I'm going to get it. I run mid-grade fuel, because even with adjusting the fuel/air and idle set screws, it had a tendency to diesel with regular grade gas. Increase in mpg is marginal compared to the stock Mikuni, but at least it can get out of its own way now. Compensating for the 265/75-15s I'm running now, I figure my mpg is somewhere between 15-17, combined city and highway.

Would be interesting to see what parts you used, and how you hooked them up, since the 2.6L wasn't fuel-injected to start with (sensors, wiring, throttle cable placement, etc).

Conquest/Starion is fuel injected just not port injection.
I too have done this I used the stock ecu and it ran very well as well. I am glad to hear you got it going!!

I I cant say I got super great MPG doing it but it did run just fine. I had only to make a pipe to get it to work. I wnet turbo with in a week of doing it.

would u say it was better mpg then a carb?

Better driveability then a carb?

I would love to go turbo, just not sure how the high mile na 2.6 would like boost

Intriguing. I had a MSnS setup all ready to go into a 420A-powered Eagle Talon a few years ago and sold it along with the car. Never tried it, but know several people using MSnS to control some serious hardware.

Looking forward to some build info. Engine work (beyond replacing a few seals and gaskets) is a ways out for me, but I'm always interested.

Congrats on getting it running, sir.

Spent all evening basically cruising and I have encountered my first little issue. Still thrilled with how it runs but once the tank gets really low (like under 1/8 tank) I've started getting a light hiccup going up steep hills. I think my return may be so forceful that it's foaming/aerating the fuel once the tank is low and once headed uphill I start pumping some air bubbles. Can't really explain it any other way so for the time being I need to keep it with more than 1/8 tank of gas I guess.

Anyone happen to have a photo of the tank internal baffles??? If it has one of those small cylindrical baffles with the slots on the bottom around the pickup area I guess this Walbro 255 COULD be draining the area faster than it can refill with a low tank.

My astrovan does that, too - unbaffled tank.

I would take out the tank pickup and do some measuring to see if it gets close enough to to the bottom of the tank. I've never dropped a 4cyl tank, but the v6 tank has the kind of baffling you describe on a swb v6, at least. May be too much pump for the application, or you have a leak in the lower end of the pickup tube that aerates when low.

I would be surprised to learn the tanks aren't baffled. The Galants have baffling going back at least as far as 1991, and that model was largely unchanged from 1989 as far as I know. Then again, why would they have designed for a high pressure electric fuel pump for fuel injection on a carburetted vehicle?

I wonder if a swirlpot could be installed between the tank and fuel rail to prevent aeration. I know they use them for race cars to prevent starvation under high cornering loads when the tank is low, but maybe this is an equally viable situation.
