The 4 cylinder tanks are generally not baffled, a carburated vehicle has little need for baffles since the float chamber makes up for the intermittent loss of flow. As Eddy suggests, get the pickup as low as you can.
Another thing that works well is adding a low pressure pump feeding an external reservoir that the high pressure feeds from. This allows for a more constant feed during transient maneuvers.

Couple hundred miles on this tank and my little hiccup that I thought was due to low fuel issues turns out to be at the point where the thermostat opens and it rapidly cools the ECU temp sensor. You can watch it happen on the datalog. No big issue and at least now I know exactly what's happening and it's not problem. Runs a little rough for about 5 seconds and then it's gone.
On another note, I used to get 220-230 miles per tank and I'm already at 210 with over 3/8 of a tank left Haven't even attempted to lean my cruise AFR's either. I think alot of it has to do with what used to require full throttle to pull hills (or a downshift even) is now just light throttle with no issues. Still not alot of horsepower on tap......but the torque is a huge improvement.

Wow. I keep rationalizing with myself that it'll take a LOT of money to do what you've done and that my truck probably isn't worth it, but every time you post about how awesome it is I want to do it right away!
I suppose I should start by evaluating my motor to see if this one is even worth it. I need to get the compression checked and have a mechanic take a listen to it and see what they think. I don't know how many miles are on the motor and I'd hate to do a FI swap on it only to have the motor blow 6 months later.

I'm already at 210 with over 3/8 of a tank left Wow... As a WAG that puts your fuel usage at about 38 MPG, look out Prius!

Yea.....I had a good engine to start with and it's kinda sad because it'll be coming out during the winter for the turbo longblock. I tried selling it before all this and couldn't give it away Already has a non-jv head too. If I can find a good Gen1, D50, or MM needing an engine before I do the swap I may throw it in and try to recoup a little costs.
That being said, fuel injection is so awesome I'm still kicking myself for not doing it sooner

Wow... As a WAG that puts your fuel usage at about 38 MPG, look out Prius! Nah......the last quarter usually disappears in about 50 miles. I expect to see maybe 280 miles out of this tank. Supposedly a 16 gallon tank but I've never been able to squeeze more than about 13 in it....I guess my fuel gauge is wrong. If it's like normal I think I may be hitting around 22 MPG but I've been driving a little harder from a dig with all my new found power

Well first full tank is in the books at 23.3 MPG That's with premium fuel so the verdict is still out on how she'll do with regular. One more tank of premium while I get the tune right.
Still running too rich at cruise above 55 mph and still have a couple areas of the fuel map that dip WAAYYYY too rich (deep 11's). I WILL hit 25 MPG!!!!!

Is it all down hill with tailwinds down there, those numbers are great. The marvels of MegaSquirt. I would love to see how a Magna intake would help, you would get considerably more midrange torque.

That's 60 miles/day back and forth to my office. Mix of backroads and arterials but speeds 45-65 with little stop and go. Just as a baseline of conditions I used to be able to milk 17-18 MPG's out of it with the Mikuni under the same conditions.
If I had a set of smaller injectors for my Magna I'd try it to see. With the 850 cc injectors I have I don't feel like trying to tune it. Idle, cruise, and low throttle conditions get tricky with injectors that big if you're looking for MPG's. That being said, I have gotten over 30 MPG on my Magna equipped turbo Conquest on many occasions (interstate driving and leaned cruise). I also have one of the Hurricane manifolds laying around but with it's short runners it's built more for top end, high rpm so I don't think it would be a good fit on the Gen1.
Not sure I've ever given much of my background on here but since 1993 I've had somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 2.6 powered vehicles (not all runners ) and been running with Megasquirt and MPI since about 2005. Once you get over the initial fear and learning curve of Megasquirt....it's a powerful system that I've had just as much (if not more) success as I have with standalone systems that are generally viewed as "superior". I think alot of the negativity towards Megasquirt is totally unjustified. End soap box

A set of 240 injectors should be easy to get and pretty cheap as well. I used to see 30 Mpg in my Starion back in the days of a well ported head and before changing cams, once the car had different cams 26 was average with 28 on long hauls. I have not seen over 30 though but that was all stock parts. I should get a Starion back on the road with the ITB intake I have. I have just not gotten back to that project.
