Just thought I'd update. I'm getting everything together for a "Build Thread" since I had many people ask. I'm nearing the end of tank #3 now and tank #2 I actually had worse mileage than tank #1. Only got about 21 mpg. While I was able to lean several areas of my fuel map, I had other areas that needed riching up. It ran SUPER over that period with really smooth, good power.

The hesitation I kept having and thought was temp related gave me fits so I went through everything (ECU, wiring, etc) and finally just wired in an 88-89 Starion dizzy, vacumn advance, and ignitor and it fixed the issue immediately. I think the RPM signal was a little weak for Megasquirt because the ignition was fine when carbed. I would get random RPM losses when the blips occurred throwing MS into fits for 5-10 seconds. My MS was pre-wired with an upgraded RPM capture circuit to avoid overheating the standard one and apparently it was just a little weak with the stock dizzy. However, changing the ignition setup has richened my maps out and now a retune is in order. I've gotten good mileage out of this tank even in the over-rich state so I'm still slightly hopeful that 25 mpg MIGHT be achievable from N/A with TBI.

The turbo longblock goes in within the month so only a little time to keep testing <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

At this point I have to say that I don't think adding fuel injection has done much at all for horspower improvement, but the torque gains have been substantial. It'll pull pretty much any hill in 5th now that before required AT LEAST 1 downshift if not 2. Acceleration at interstate speeds (55-70) is vastly improved. I don't drive much on big roads but I've played some just to see and she'll easily accelerate from 55-80 in 5th gear with light throttle input. On the carb accelerating or even pulling grades took hammer down.

MS-II V3.0 but it serious overkill for N/A. I had it already from a turbo project.

yeah i figured it was a pretty basic set up so i was thinking of just going with the basic one

Should be more then enough to get me started... this is my first megasquirt project so I am pretty excited but there seems to be a overwhelming amount of info to absorb, so i might be asking u lots of questions.

Yep....that's plenty of ECU for this project.

Don't let MS overwhelm you......it being open source and DIY there's some pretty heavy programming and algorithms involved but in the end you don't need to know anything about them. The gurus just give full explanation of how everything works. Once it's wired an initial program is a breeze. Feel free to contact me when needed.

A 2.4 dizzy from an injected truck give both crank and cam sensors and is fixed pickups allowing the MS to set all the timing.
The dizzy does need a 6mm spacer to mount in a 2.6.
