Hello how is everyone doing? Kind of browsing a bit. The reason for the post wanted to get some ideas or opinions. I am working out a deal for a 91 montero sr LWB. Its a very clean looking rig doesn't appear to have been abused at all. It started right up ran for a second then died. He told me it had a new fuel pump in it. He was told it had a bad ECM that's why it kept dying he bought a used one but it still dies. So He may have ended up with another bad one Hard to say honestly. Its a 3.0 Auto rig. And its super clean and looks to have been decently maintained. So is this one I should jump On? I love the GEN1 LWB rigs. And this one is spotless body wise. Interior isnt tore up just dirty. Lets here the opinions.

The first LWB I purchased has similar symptoms that I haven't been able to fix. After replacing the ECU, fuel pump, filter, timing belt, coil, FI rails and injectors, TPS, IAC, and other long forgotten things...truck is played with once every 6 months, runs for about 3 heartbeats at 400 rpm, then stalls and doesn't restart.

Sorry this isn't helpful, but commiserating none-the-less.

yeah thats what he said it will restart in about 30 min and do the whole thing over.

ecu CTS bad so it won't get cold start enrichment? Fuel sock in tank or the little hose between pump and first steel fuel line? Water in the tank?

thanks eddy basically im trying to reassure myself there is not much wrong with this rig at all.

If it cranks without clanks and the oil pressure is on the way up while it runs, buy it and we'll figure it out.

Ok I think im going to try to pick it up. He also has a stripped down LS sitting there as well that I could pull parts off of assuming there interchangeable, They are both 91 auto's Its basically complete minus the ecm and wiring harness and tires and wheels.

Those mechanical type parts are all the same.

The differences between the two models (RS / LS) are seat fabrics, headliner trim, bouncy seat, headlight washers, and other things. By '91, the various options were customer choices rather than package deals.

is it possible the distrib. module could cause this?

Don't think it's spark, but easy to check - pull a plug wire after it dies and see if it's still sparking while you crank it.
