>>>*We had a server crash, at first we thought it was us but it turned out to be Network Solutions and someone giving them fits....again.

Then we find out that the program Le' used to build the website is no longer "supported" by Microsoft. Fine while things were up but once down no way to fix anything.

The program was only 13 years old, a lifetime with technology so understandable, but being warned would have been nice.

The server keeps changing passwords trying to stop whoever/whatever is messing with the works but finally after five days of rewrites Le' gets the old site down and the new one up.

Except. Pics don't work, unless reloaded, financials don't work, crosslinks require going "back" and then forward. The new program has things neither one of us have seen before?

Tech support appears to be someone in India that would rather not be bothered, easy to get on the phone but we suspect their real day job is herding the flock of Sheep.

We be thinking perhaps it is time for a new server? Anyone have any ideas of which one is the best?....Network Solutions was supposed to be the big one but now it is looking like they aren't keeping up...*EB

What are the specs you need?

Ie, disk capacity and any specific software

>>>*Not sure but Le' will probably know. We have maybe 1000 photos and then just the text, so not that much really.

We always liked to keep it simple and personal, the problem now appears to be related to security issues since they insist on those impersonal shopping cart programs.

We can still invoice but pics don't load right and no one can click on any buttons to make a purchase.

We will get it figured out eventually, either that or retire and go fishing....*EB

Unix or MS???

Shopping cart programs can by trouble if you have file path and permission problems.

>>>*We use MS. And man are you correct on the "shopping cart" programs.
We plan on keeping it simple, just click and send and it not sure call or email. Old fashioned, sure, but I still like dealing personally with folks and it feels good when I can help if possible..

Le' got the site rewritten and loaded, the only problem now is sometimes a page must be refreshed to show up but then it works.

Loading pics is doing the same thing, it requires a refresh to show and neither one of us understands why.
But then I am getting the same thing on many other sites so maybe it's in our security programs?

*So still working on the glitches....*EB

The refresh might be part of a cache timing setting.

You might see if you can shorted up the cache retention timing on your side.

>>>*Thanks. We did think of that, so Le' cleared every PC we have, three laptops and my mainframe, all still doing the same thing.

So are the cell phones and my brother's system down at his house so it's something else.

Now we just discovered that every single photo in the files at the server are case sensitive and THEY changed the JPG to all caps??

Perhaps that is part of it>

Check to ensure that you do not have spaces in the file names.

Case-sensitive is becoming more of an issue with web sites. As is file extension...

I am working through that on my www.4x4Voice.com website side of the 4x4wire. I have over 6000 file names to change and and 2000 or so reference pages to correct.

>>>*Well, now we have pics loading sometimes, sometimes not. Refresh seems to work about 90% of the time but we should not need to do that.
No one at tech seems to have a clue, either.
They tell us it is on our end, yea, sure. Six different computors, all doing the same thing?
We did get Paypal working but Le' had to go find a bug in her own files to get the codes, she did check and at least that is secure. Man, what a PIA this one has been....*EB
