I'm heading down to Portland next week and I'm thinking I should pick up a locker from an SR while I'm down there, since we never got Monteros of that generation up in the great white north. Guessing I should just call up some of the wreckers down there ahead of time, but I wanted to ask you guys what's an average price for a third member and axle shaft from an SR should cost? If there are any locals around that area that want to check out a shorty diesel Pajero and maybe help me find a locker that would be greatly appreciated. Any suggestions to make my search easier would be appreciated as well.

Do you have coils or leaf springs in the rear? SR will be coils, and if yours is same, should bolt up. Test the pump/regulator and actuator with a 12v battery (or 2 9v's in series). Should run, then stop, and the axle should lock up before it stops. Kill power and air should vent and axle should unlock. I think pump is in one of the cubbies under the rear seats, but somebody will chime in and let you know. SR locker will be 4.636 ratio, which should be fine if you have a 4.625 in yours (tag in engine compartment will have ratio without decimal). Some diesels are 4.875, and while there is a 4.9 for the big diff, I've never found one.

If you're upgrading a GenI with the GenII axle then you should get the trailing arms also - heavier duty and they bolt right up. Make sure you check the condition of the wheel studs before you decide to pull the axle - the ABS trigger wheel is mounted directly behind the wheel studs on at least some of the years, and replacing those studs entails taking the axle shaft to a machine shop where they have to cut off the bearing retainer and press off the bearing. You might be able to use that as a bargaining point if there are any wheel studs that would need to be replaced.

The locker pump is under the right side of the rear seat - there's a divider panel inside the cubby that comes out after removing a few 10mm bolts, the pump is attached to the back side of that panel.

Awesome, I'll give them a call. Thanks for all the quick replies. My 2.8 has the big diffs and is a 4.63 like the SR, my 2.5 has the same size diffs as the 3.0L V6 and it has 4.88s in it, well I should say the rear is a 4.88, the front is missing quite a few teeth so I'm not sure what ratio that would be, lol. Already have onboard air so no worries about the compressor, just need the axle and the third member, the factory switch would be nice as well. Goin to Portland to visit friends, so the distance isn't really a big deal. Wonder if the SR is complete other than the engine, I could put my 2.5 in there and one of you guys down in the states could have a diesel SR.

OBA will blow the actuator apart unless you regulate it down to about 2.5psi, plus an electrovavle and pressure switch. The compressor has the regulator built in, and has the release valve also. Get the compressor that goes with the diff. All it needs is simple switched 12v and a ground. Turn it on, and it runs up to the regulated pressure and cuts off. If it runs again, the actuator is leaking, and there are none left in dealer parts stock. When you kill the compressor power, the release vavles opens and vents the pressure.

So I got my locker from that truck in Everett @ Marys A Wreck, $150 for the third member and another $70 for the shorter axle shaft. The air compressor is still there if anyone wants it. I was going to buy the doors, hood and fenders (I rolled my truck) but they wanted $150 just for one fender <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" /> I went down to Portland and picked up fenders for $30 from another wrecker WTF, <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/butwiggle.gif" alt="" /> to Marys A Wreck

Should have gotten the compressor. If you try to run it off oba, you'll blow it up. The actuators have a tendency to leak anyway, and they only take about 2-3psi. I really don't get any jollies for tojaso's...
