Hi Nathan,

Great job you did with your NP231 doubler, so great in fact I looking at doing something similar but retaining the Paj transfer case. i want to keep the Paj case to keep the Super Select option (you guys call it ACtive-Trac)

I have taken interest in this unit http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=681243 made by NW Fab . they actually make 2 units, one being about 2" shorter than the other one.

I am interesed in the shorter unit as a preliminary look under the Paj seems to indicate that there may be a clearance issue if the transfer case gets moved back say 10 " which is that would need to happen if i used their larger unit. I am assuming that I would need 2 adaptors (front & back of crawler) at least 1/2" thick, which would bring the length out to about 10".

If I were to use the shorter unit then it MAY , just may fit in.

The probem of course is the crossmember that hold the torsion bars , its in the way!..

Given that you have actually been there & done all this, what do you reckon is the max that the case can be moved back before you have problems hitting that cross member?

Could it go back 10" , could it go back 6-7"??

The other option may be to modify the cross memeber by cutting out the middle bit & welding in an insert that is lower tha the ends of the cross member, something with a bit of a dog leg in it. I might then have to get it engineered, i dont know.

Anyway mate would appreciate any help you could give, cheers

Ian, before you go with Northwest, I suggest speaking with Duffy at D&D first.

PM me for the number.

had a look again at nathans doubler post.

Given the similarities between the Mitsu tranny & the jeep tranny , does the NP231 actually bolt up to the Mistsu tranny??

I cant find any mention in his post that it does, but it must because the adaptor he had made was just to mate the 2 NP231's together, or di I miss something??

One thing you can do to lessen the amount of adapters needed and keep superselect is to use the original superselect case from the early Gen 2's with the smaller motors. These cases will bolt up to the underdrive but you will have to drill for clocking.
The NP231 and 241 cases will bolt up to the Mitsu transmission, but you will need the Jeep tailhousing and to modify the pulse gear. We are swapping the Rubicon Rock-Trac NV241 transfer case into Lloyds '95 SR, Here's a link to his build thread. you might want to skip toward the end somewhere as we are just getting the T-case in now and it's a long thead. Lloyds build

Here's NathanC's thread on installing duals into his Gen 2 Twins

Here's My '88 build with Duals, Not much info here but i can post up more and add some pics. B4R and gear driven case

I'll throw mine in here, just in case you wanted to look.
NP231 coupled to a Dana 300 using DD machines kit. DD machine still sells kits but is no longer on Pirate.

Last I spoke to Duffy, he was still doing the kits. That was three months ago. He was planning on dropping the 'kits' eventually and switching to an entire reduction box. The first off was to be the D300 since that appeared to be more in demand. Next would be the NP231/241 sometime this spring.

I think there's some confusion. None of the kits or boxes on the market come with adapters specifically for Mitsu anythings. As Toasty pointed out, you can mount the NP231/241 to a Mitsu automatic transmission with the proper tailshaft, output shaft, etc., as Nathan did, but you're on your own otherwise.

This is my Sport conversion but there's tons of pictures which may be helpfull.

thanks guys for the input & links , some good reading there

Just to be sure its clear how I want to proceed.

I want to put a doubler between the Mistu auto & the Mitsu case. that way I get to keep the super select, & dont have any vss issues. I can see now that the NP231 does mate up the the Mitsu tranny ( I was unclear about some of Nathan terms, ie tailhousing etc, to me that ,means the bit before the driveshaft , but he meant the end of the tranny) I guess using the NP231 solves at least on side of the adaption , ie the tranny side. The next step (if it all is gonna fit) is to get the NP231 output adaptable to the Mitsu case input, ie 23 splines.

Would be good if Nathan could chip in about if its all fittable if we move the Mitsu case back.Theres not much room to play with given the crossmember, cant be relocated due to the torsion bar mounts. I guess it could be cut & modified though.

I havent heard back from the guys at North West Fab yet either.

BTW you would believe how much 231's go for over here. Called up one wrecker yesterday, wanted $900!!!.

You guys can buy them at the local supermarkets I believe, well not quite but you know what I mean.

cheers

Guys, here is a picture of DD setup:
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=696803

Everything foward of & including the 2 aluminium plates should bolt up to the Mitsu transfer case?? Is that correct.

& the front should bolt straight to the Mitsu tranny??

This seems too easy . I must be wrong!
