Angelo,

Its not too bad , but its a 16% drop off compared to the 3.14. It is still better than standard. But at $1400 its looking less attractive every day. Not knocking Hardmans here because he was the only one who stepped up to the plate to help us guys out which was fantastic, & he has obviously his own strong resaons why he dropped the 3.15s

The problem i believe (for me anyway) is that the 3.15 were always either too low or not low enough. If I had 2.70 it would still be the same.

The good thing about a dual case although its a lot of mods, is that you really get the best of both worlds, ie you can keep you standard low which is still useful in some applications despite being a really poor ratio, you can have an imtermediatry ratio & then you can have a super low & then of course there are further options for the serious crawlers if we went with NP cases.

I believe that we should as a Mitsu community get our collective thinking caps on as suggested & come up with the best way to do a dual crawler. There are some serioulsy clever guys out there, Nathan with his setup, ES, Dannytuned etc & anyone else I have missed. Toasty is on to the best idea in putting a 231 between the tranny & the Mitsu case. This lets you retain the active trac which is important to me., in fact he made some enquiries about getting adaptors made etc, but that seems to have gone on the backburner. he is working on something for Lloyds rig, but I dont think they are finished yet.

but we do need to do this as a group, I reckon. I am 100% serious about getting dual cases setup. lets go..

The issue is with the 5sp t/case.
The gearlever boss is pinned to the the selector rail which runs through the t/case and into the 5sp box.
The larger 3.15 low gear will foul on the gearlever boss so the bottom third needs to be cut away and new mounting holes drilled and tapped into the selector rail.
We were initially thinking of selling the modified selector rail and boss as part of the kit. Of course the auto & 5sp t/cases all need the grinding of the housing selector rail boss as shown in the above pics. When we did the 3.15's for my 95 5sp Mark did this mod for me.
Initially he wanted to only make 2.7's for the Gen 2 & 3 because of this issue but I talked him into the 3.15's so I'm surprised that he's decided to switch to the 2.7 ratio (this being the next lowest gear size module).
There has been a few guys that have done the 5sp conversion.
From memory the Trooper Tera low range kit includes a modified selector rail/boss for the 5sp.
I'll give him a call to discuss.

I just luv my "clacker Jabber".................

Dang, surprised all this info & (assuming) long process of developing these snuck by us! Figured we'd hear something through the grapevine. Plus, didn't it cost more to develope these again & test them? The 3.15's were ready to go

More info....

Got another email saying they changed the ratio to make the installs easier <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" /> And the only way they will ever reproduce the 3.15's if they can sell 20 sets. Fat chance!!

So there you have it. 2.70 t case gears or research different options <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

I would really like to get the 3.15 gears over the 2.7 gears. This is just not a good business decision in my opinion because the people who would be most likely to buy these gears would gladly make the mods necessary to make the gears fit. This really effects the crawl ratio.

Stock 1.9*2.8*4.63 = 25:1
New Crawler Gears 2.7*2.8*4.63 = 35:1
Old Crawer Gears 3.15*2.8*4.63 = 41:1

I'm sure they have a certain break even point for each batch they make & I suspect if it sits on the shelf for a few years before it sells then it's loosing them money.

The fact is, there are simply too few mitsu 4x4 owners who will do this upgrade plus if they're getting a lot of support issues with the manual gear box installs then it stands to reason they will reduce their cost by only offering the safe easy to do upgrade instead of the one where support issues & customer concerns are likely. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Other than that, you all should stop hijacking my build thread. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

What's the point of have a build thread if the mod you are making will no longer be needed/possible. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
