So I notice while idling in the driveway I am getting a slight vibration like noise when I have the clutch pedal up, when I push in the pedal noise stops. I remember way back when I had to replace a throw-out bearing in my Pinto (High School Hot Rod).
Anyone have experience in this, wife thinks we should just take it in and "get'r done!" -Something about me taking forever....wives!
I am the shade tree guy but don't want a lot of work either....getting lazy in my old age, and then there is the lack of tools.
You maybe younger and can run faster, but I am older and have been around long enough to know where all the shortcuts are!

Mine does the same thing,,,it always has. Mine stayed noisey after I replaced throwout and clutch. Then figured it was bearings in trans. That was a 50,000 miles ago. I think that big 5 speed maybe is normal to be a little rumbbly. I'm alway keepin my eye out for a spare MT. Seems that the MT s I here about usually go out by not shifting out of 4th,,something like that. The trans experts will hopefully jump in here. Mine has 250,000 on it. One though unit.

Thanks Dave! Makes me feel a little better! I will concentrate on the more important things, like bouncy seat install and getting the AC charged up and working.

nah , I still say nothing to worry about. The throwouts on the V5MT1 setup are as h.d. as the trans,,,nothing like a Pinto or the KM145.

when I push in the pedal noise stops, ... Then your throwout and pilot bearing are doing well. It just normal bearing noise in the trans, every manual trans ive ever owned makes a little more noise with the clutch out and in neutral. All the bearings on the input shaft are spinning when in neutral.

Thanks Fellas! I have on my list to change out the tranny fluid, along with the diff fluids as well. Anyone got a tip or trick to doing either? I notice my tranny's drain and fill plug is different from what I read on the tech page information? And then there is no diff covers to remove, so I am learning this process as well. Thanks for your help and encouragement guys; very much appreciated!

Tip: Don't remove the drain plug on the transmission until you've verified that you can remove the fill plug. Ask me how I know.

I agree with KrzyDav. Unless its REALLY, REALLY noisy, AFAIKT, that's 'normal'.
After two 4-speeds (M21, ST10) and five different clutches, my '68 Firebird is always dead silent whether it's engaged or not. Same for the '63 Chevy pickup, and all the Chevys and Pontiacs my dad's restored.
However, I have three different V5MT1-6 transmissions for my big Sport with six new clutches (Mitsu and aftermarket), the original transmission in my new '97 Sport with first an aftermarket clutch and now a Mitsu clutch and new pressure plate, and my x-fiancee's '98 with the original transmission and clutch. All of them sound to me like the throwout bearing is going out - even when the clutch is brand new.
All the brand new Sports back in the day made the same noise. Irritating as hell but it is what it is.
The 'T' in V5MT1 signifies its a truck transmission - with all that implies. As far as I understand things, that transmission is a heavy duty, commercial use transmission. It won't be as quiet nor will you be able to shift it like a typical passenger vehicle (car) transmission.
One thing, though. When the main bearing at the front of the transmission start going south it's a different, slightly louder less smooth rumbly noise. Pretty much the same tone. When the throwout bearing went south the pitch was higher.
I can check mine by pulling up next to a concrete wall on the driver side with the window rolled down. If I hear ANY clunking then there's a problem. It should be noisy, but smooth and consistent.
Don't know if that helps but it's all I got. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Forgot. BTW, the tranny will be even nosier with full synthetic but at lest it'll shift easier.
Edward

when you get around to changing MT oil,,,Do Not let anyone sell you GL"5". It will eat your synchros.
use stalube GL4 ,,,80/90wt
or Red line or Amsoil equivilant.
Being your where it gets dang cold , I'd recommend the Redline.
