Ever since I bought my Sportage it's been miserable to start and runs like crap. To start it you have to mash the pedal to the floor, and then crank. It's doggy as ****, zero power at all, and gets about 7MPG. It idles at 500ish RPM, and wants to quit in gear at a stoplight. Here's what I've tried:
MAF swapped with known good one
IAC swapped with known good one
TPS swapped with known good one
CPS swapped with known good one
Computer swapped with a known good one
Brand new temp sensor (brain's sensor)
Swapped injectors with known good ones
New plugs (are very light in color)
New coils
New fuel filter
Cut the 2nd cat off
taken the precat off (both were not plugged)
160PSI of compression on all 4 (within 5psi of each other)
Uses no oil or coolant

I'm completely stumped. Please help, even if you have to call and talk over the phone.

-Grant

Also, the crank has not slipped on the sprocket. Verified by dropping a wire down the plug hole. The timing is dead on.

what about mechanical timing on the timing belt itself? cams and crank lined up correctly? i know you said crank hasn't slipped.

So, i bought an 01 Kia Sportage. before i even drove it, i nick-named it The Goat.. it has been just like a goat.. stubbern at every corner...

Check your fuel pump pssure and pressure regulator. Have you smoke checked for vacuumed leaks?

...I think we do not know what car you are driving...model year ..mileage...etc...
EDIT...AHH..OK...'99.. found your collection of photos....
...were any codes mentioned in previous threads?
AHh..edit again...found codes in your previous threads....not a good practice to start several new threads on an opened issue...I think good advise was given by several. Hope you find out and report in this same thread....

Body Damage is Cool
Might be a bad ecu. I had one go bad and it kept 1 injector open constantly. It blew a lot of black smoke didn't have much power, and got terrible mpg's.
If you have access to a spare, might be nice to swap one out but kind of expensive to just buy and put on.
By the way, put your cat's back on. You loose major low end torque without them and you will throw a CEL, plus the extra pollution isn't helpful (and I'm not a tree hugger).
Keep us posted.

Also very light colored plugs is a sign of lean running ,check over your fuel system very well and for any intake leaks

1999 Kia sportage, previously has thrown codes for the iac valve and coolant temp sensor. It ran the same with both the cats on, and I've swapped the brain with a know good one.
Does this engine have a crank position sensor?
