I am considering a trial period to allow posting of pictures in forum postings.

Images would be limited to .gif, .jpg, .png, and .pdf

File size would be limited to 800 kb or less.

Questions, comments, concerns?????

You mean where they can upload them to the forum versus linking to a hosted image on another website?

Yes

Seems there are some older posts that no longer have active links to images that go with the posts.

yes, would be good to allow that. It's 1 of the 2 most frequently asked questions. The other is how to search.

Would they be going thru a virus filter, or is the program not able to do so?

Excellent question...

Also, on a somewhat related note, I still periodically get complaints from both active and inactive members on how difficult it is to post pics. I wonder if a video tutorial might better explain the process? If so, how can one make a video tutorial of the process? Well may be that's a question for another thread... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Stenography is about hiding images in files. Last I checked, there is no trigger mechanism to make them executable.

Viruses don't appear to be a big problem.

So how soon can you do this John? Also are you thinking any storage limits?

The storage is one issue I have been considering. That is why the 800k limit. We have plenty of disk space but I will need to track to see how it grows.

I want to get another disk use measure which I will do tomorrow night. Then it is a matter of checking a configuration box and saving the new configuration. By Friday it should be active.

That is pretty cool. We've really been wanting to do this for years - many forums offer this now, I guess because space is so much cheaper than it used to be, eh? Is it going to effect/change the user agreement any I wonder?

Great idea in any case! Cheers!
