He all, I hope everyone is doing well. I drove the FJ60 across the country and have successfully completed about half of my Department Head training in Newport. Sorry I haven't been around at all, but I'll eventually get back into the loop when things slow a little in another month and a half or so.

I've taken up mountain biking for exercise and have run a couple of races during my limited weekend time. I also took a breather and got out and wheeled with some Cruiserheads in MASS last weekend. I hope to put some pictures up in my thread on the Toyota board.

I hope all are well and miss "hanging out" on the wire.

Cheers,
Jon

Good to hear from you. There are some great guys (and gals) with the NorthEast 4 Wheel Drive Assoc. If you run across Scott Hatch, tell him I say Hi.

My how things change in a moment's notice. I was originally slated to be Chief Engineer of a minesweeper out of San Diego. Then, the Nav decided to move them all to Bahrain. So, I was all ready to go when they changed it up and decided I was going to be CHENG on a brand new DDG out of Pearl Harbor. The new ship is named USS Michael Murphy, named for a fallen SEAL LT who was posthumously awarded the MoH for his actions in Asscrackistan. This will be the third type of ship's engineering plant I've worked in (gas turbine), and I'm looking forward to it.

Hope all are well on the wire!

So, to the Pacific Rim with you, yeah?

BTW, the Fritzmeister is now working at the print shop at Bangor Sub Base just n. of Bremerton, if you guys ever pull in to Everett.

She's down there with her Mum and stepdad up in BC getting rickety.

Jon if you haven't yet, pick up the book Lone Survivor. It's about what happened to Mr. Murphy.

Good read IMHO. Beware... the book will fire you up. It did me.

Greetings from the Land of Aloha. In port for a bit and got a break so I wanted to stop in and say hello. Life is grand with 100,000 shaft horsepower at your fingertips. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hope all is well!

Will never believe it without photographs <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Post a few if you can...

The Arleigh Burke class DDGs are awesome ships...

I remember seeing (and hearing) one of the early generation gas turbine DDs tie up alongside us in Long Beach.. They were really noisy then.. From what I can find on Youtube videos, sounds like they have really done a great job quietening down the turbines on the Arleigh Burkes..

Sounds like with a Chief Engineer tour on a DDG under your hat, Command at Sea shouldn't be too far down the road. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

old salt from the late 60's, early '70s..

Nothing like being an "Old Salt" with sea duty on a FRAM 1 tincan.

Did 35 knots on 2 boilers a couple of times. But, there were not many that could do that.

So, you have 100,000 HP, but, do you have 4-wheel drive??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

A former Dept Head did some heavy lobbying to convince me to join the Electronic Warfare Division on a new Sprunce class in late 70s. He was XO.

Needless to say, I opted for a live in the civilian world.

Good to hear from you and hope to see you back in San Diego soon.

Where is the 'cruiser parked during your wanderings????

Aloha Jon!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Better look out for the Cruiser if the boss is askin'!

Not that any parts would fit the Jeep or anything.

Stay well!
