When you say can't go into 4H while in drive, are you under way, or sitting still on the brakes? If under way, what does it do when you try, grind?

If you are trying to shift to 4H under way and it grinds when you try, I am wondering if the center diff locked is not released. (You need to be in Lc to get the rear locker switch to be active.) Maybe the binding you are getting is the t-case and not rear being locked?
