So im getting ready to do an oil change, and id like to put more thought into it. Last year I went with some filter and decided on some cheapo full synthetic oil.

I have researched here, and found that the napa gold (or platinum?) is a good oil filter to use, my question is regarding what kind and type of oil should i go with.

Within the last 6 months my monty has finally started to smoke after i hit the gas after idling (leaky valve guides?), so i dont know if this should be considered with the type of oil you guys recommend.

I searched and someone recommended Mobil 1 synthetic extended performance, and im also not sure whether to go with 5w-30 or 10w-30, or something else...I live in Oregon where we have temperate weather all year round.
