Ray I know what you saying but over heating and lack of or bad
oil are two of the worst enemies of engines and lead to a large number of failures.A new filter and Mobil 1 every 5000 mi or one a year which ever comes first is a small amount to pay for peace of mind and assurance of long engine life I think its worth it.Better than most upgrades in the long run. Just saying.
I also use Pur one filters (Top Shelf <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />)which seem alot like Pep boys house brand. Good oil and filters are still alot cheaper than replacing an engine and will only be good overall for your engine.
