Just thinking about this more and I wonder if you have a lot of backspacing or extra wide 33's on your rims especially if you can't fit 33's.

I just confirmed with Carlos and he ran a Goodyear 37x14.5/15 tire mounted on a 15x10" rim on his and he agreed that it could have probably held a 38.

I do recall he had to shim it using washers but that was because of the rim backspacing he chose.

One key thing for the OP to note is that you can't do this with the stock bumper... although I don't believe it's a concern for you since you're planning building new bumpers anyway.
