Good news for you... the bolts are actual standard vehicle lug bolts so they're just as strong as what you use to mount the wheels to the hubs. What could 'possibly' wear out are the nuts on the carrier but I highly doubt it.

If I were you, I'd focus on a swing out carrier for just the Jerry Can + HiLift instead.
