I'm the second owner of this truck. Bought it in 1999. The original owner took incredible care of it. Every service completed and stamped in the book with the receipt. It's been such a great truck, probably the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I had a valve job done recently and while at it, replaced the valve stem seals, (head gaskets of course) replaced the water pump, timing belt, lower timing belt gear, crank angle sensor, Timing belt tensioner, front main seal, timing belt idlers, cam seals, valve cover gaskets, all hoses and all belts. Plug wires were also replaced and new Iridium plugs were installed. Also replaced the catalytic converter and the alternator.

It runs fantastically now, more power than it has ever had, and does not smoke or drip any oil (Whoo hooooo).
Not long ago, I replaced the blower fan, and the ignition switch assembly and that cross shaft assembly.

Transmission shifts flawlessly under light or heavy throttle and transmission fluid was mostly changed when the engine work was done.

This is a Texas Truck since new, so,....not a single spec of any kind of surface rust anywhere.

31" Michelin LTX tires have excellent tread all around and look far better than the stock size and brakes work great.

All Aspects of the 4 Wheel drive work as they should. High range, low range, diff locks etc.

Paint is excellent silver metallic, but, the hood and front fenders were repainted for some reason by the original owneer, and the clear coat is now lifting on top of each front fender and the edges of the hood. I did a quickie Duplicolor Base coat/Clear coat spray can job on the passenger side hood panel and fender top,.....Looks OKish,....its a hair darker than the OE paint.

Interior is in Excellent condition, no dash cracks, no upholstery tears, good carpets and headliner.

Until last week the A/C would freeze you out, then the A/C clutch self destructed. System is still holding freon, so, no reason to think a clutch replacement woudn't fix it,....however, I dont have a spare clutch. I am considering removing the compressor and replacing with a new compressor, expansion valve, and drier and recharging the system, but the parts will run me about $350 and I'm short on $$ now.

241,000 miles, (All the engine work was done at 238,000) and it frankly is not giving any indication of giving up any time soon. It is a solid and strong running truck that still looks great inside and out.

Any input on what I should put it on the local Craigslist for? Is this a valuable and sought after cult classic, or just a used truck. It certainly has impressed me,....to the point of buying another, (a 2003 Which appears to have the same engine) (couldn't pass up the deal).....I fear it will never match to the durability of the 95.

54 lookers and not a single suggestion on market value? Come on guys. Surely some of these are trading around.

In light of no responses here, I went ahead and started an ad on my local Craigslist for $2900 with the broken AC clutch,....or $3400 with new compressor and operating cold AC (will include expansion valve, drier, flush etc.)

Am I in the ball park guys? or is this just an old truck with 241K on it????

My brother sold his 98 Explorer with 362K on it for $1800 last month (2 wheel drive).

Based on my recent searching, Montero prices are all over the place across the map. If it runs and looks as good as you say, your price sounds decent to me. If you have a u-pull-it near you, I would change out the A/C compressor. The less it needs, the easier for the prospective buyer.

Your 2003 is a 3.8L...

I'm glad you live so far away. I'd be trying to figure out how to buy that if you were closer.

I think $3000 is on the money, you dont get much for that any more. Make sure you have pics on CL or if you could get it to a high traffic corner for a weekend that may help also. What will scare people off is the miles. It will help if they can see it.Good luck METALMOVER
