Whats been the experience here? Its a 89 Raider V6 with 93XXX miles. Thought I had an exhaust leak....turns out it's the pass side exhaust manifold. Only exp I have is with my 95 Landcruiser, drove it for years without issue.

Thanks Morgan

PS Anyone have a crack free pass side exhaust manifold for sale?

It'll be fine. Will get worse over time, and you will want to fix it.

Something like 99.99999% of Japanese vehicles, at least trucks end up with an exahust manifold crack...Not sure exactly why. My Nissan Titan has had them for quite awhile, most of my Monteros had them at one time or another. Toyota Trucks crack the day you drive them off the lot....I don't think they really hurt anything, just an annoying noise.

Check car-part.com and have a wrecking yard send you one.

Cracked manifolds are no biggie. It's not just Japanese vehicles that have the problem either. Google Jeep "Cracked Manifold" and you'll come up with about a zillion hits.

The down side is it may cost you a little bit of HP since that cylinder wont scavenge as well. Air leaks before the 02 sensor will throw off your fuel mix a little.

General experience says it's OK but there are side effects.

They can be welded up, nickel rod and heat the mani to about 500* first, then have the gasket flange flattened on a belt sander to remove some of the stresses. It also helps to cut the flange between the ports. This is an old trick on the 2.6 to keep it from pulling out the back stud, but it works on the 3.0, too.

I've only had one nipponese mani crack, on a 2.6T with uncut webs. Cracked right under the turbo flange, on the bottom.

Ditto all Kevin said...

seems there should be a passenger side in a yard somewhere. The yard down in SLO town has one , and they don't connect to carpart, etc. The passenger side should be the same 89-94. If you crack '89 drivers side , now that's a rarer find cause it's the only year with egr hole.
