95 LS 3.0. The clutch failed on my old compressor. I couldn't find a reasonably priced used/good clutch, so I bit the bullet and just bought a brand new Denso compressor, drier, expansion valve, O-rings, flush and oil in a kit.

The old compressor was free to turn smoothly and the oil was clear when I poured it out to measure it. Poured a small amount through a white T-shirt to look at it,....clean and clear.

I only got about 1/2 ounce out of the old compressor, so, I added back about 3/4 ounce (to compensate for oil still in the drain pan etc).

THE DRIER HAS NO OIL COMING OUT,....NOT EVEN A SINGLE DROP,...SO, SHOULD I PUT THE NEW DRIER BACK WITHOUT ADDING OIL? OR SHOULD I ADD MAYBE 1/2 OUNCE FOR SAFETY?? IS THERE OIL TRAPPED IN THE DRIER THAT WONT COME OUT NO MATTER WHAT?

TRYING TO GET THIS DONE THIS MORNING AS A BIG STORM IS COMING THIS WAY AND THE TRUCK IS OUTSIDE.

CAN ANYONE ADVISE?

Hope it really is better late than never...

When I re-installed the AC in my old Galant (2.0L turbo), I remember roughly eyeballing it. If you're sure you've got the right oil for the refrigerant you will be running, it should only take something like 2-5 ounces. I found this chart, which shows Montero, but does not differentiate by engine. You have to scroll down a bit, but it looks like most Mitsubishis take about that much.

The amount of oil you use will be dependent on whether or not you drained the old system. Much of the oil lives in the compressor as far as I know. If you didn't remove it, you probably have most of the oil you really need.

Make sure you oil up the new o-rings you got for those connections in the stuff too.

I'm sure being absolutely accurate matters, but I was planning on running one of those propane kits from Amazon and ended up getting an R134 charge from a pro shop since they pressurized the lines instead of drawing a vacuum like I had planned. Car blew 45*F at idle in 110*F+ ambient here in Phoenix.

Currently do not have AC in the Pajero. It's black. It was 114*F outside for my hour long drive home yesterday. Really hope this info helps you out, brother.

3:30, no answer to my questions yet,...so have not moved forward.

Just to clarify, The compressor I replaced with new DID NOT FAIL, so I did NOT flush the system. THE ONLY REASON I REPLACED THE COMPRESSOR AND CLUTCH WAS BECAUSE THE CLUTCH ON THE COMPRESSOR WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO ENGAGE.....THAT IS ALL!!!!

I measured the oil in the old compressor, about 1/2 oz of clean oil came out, I poured 3/4 oz of proper new oil in to the NEW Compressor to compensate for oil sticking to the drain pan etc and re-installed the compressor, battery tray, battery, and all the other crap attached to the battery tray and brackets.

NOW, the OLD DRIER is removed.....couldnt get any oil out of the drier

Here is my question:

DO I ADD OIL TO THE DRIER EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NONE IN THE OLD DRIER???

Again, I have not, and I am not planning on flushing the system it was working perfectly until a week ago, and then the clutch would no longer engage,.....so no system contamination, means no system flush required,....so the old oil stayed in the system.

5:30 edit: I went ahead and added 1/2 oz to the drier and bolted her back up,....now vacuuming down.

Unless someone answers with 95 specs you can go with these numbers.

Compressor installed at the factory contains 80 cm3 of oil.
Don't be so cheap that you try to squeeze old oil from a used compressor.
Receiver/Dryer replacement (always when system opened) need to add - 10 cm3

I am no help on your solution but am curious where you got your oring kit? I need to replace my dryer and orings and recharge my system. I hope you get it all together.

LOL! You have to empty and measure the oil in the old compressor to know how much to add back to the new compressor (after draining all the oil out of the New compressor)

Got it sorted out everyone. I added 1/2 oz of the PAG 46 to the drier, vacuumed it down to -30 for 1.5 hours, added two cans of R134A,....and "Wallah",....still need to add the additional 3 oz of R134a to get to the required 27 oz. But nice and cold for now.

Yea, I didn't read far enough, but the manual makes no sense.
Says add per component replaced:
Condenser 30 cm3
Evaporator 60 cm3
Piping 10 cm3
Receiver/dryer 10 cm3
That totals more than the factory fill of 80 cm3, assuming that's all the oil added to the system. Instructions then say measure old oil poured from old compressor and deduct from 80 cm3, but that number includes oil in other components not replaced. Some oil will have escaped with bleed off of refrigerant. Not sure if each component also gets oil at factory as per above??

I just wantet to +1 on Carlisle Auto Air. They spent about 30 minutes with me at the counter one day trying to piece together a receiver/drier for my Alfa Romeo. Good people and fair prices.

My Montero isn't running yet (I bought it for scrap prices) but will have to rebuild the a/c system, as it didn't come with a compressor.
