Instead of asking us the same question over and over, whose answer we are trying to provide, how about answering ours, do you have an AT or an MT?
Another way of answering would be to say that all tcases without a neutral detent, would then also not have a neutral indicator on the shift knob. Kind of thought that would have been clear from the previous replies...

It's only his 7th post and he may not be familiar with the etiquette here. I suspect it was originally a manual which he swapped in an automatic since he indicated his replacement transfer case has a neutral detent and he encounters the problem where it goes into neutral. But as has been asked, we also need to confirm what transmission you have now (see what I mean about putting the details in the signature ).

I've owned several. All the m/t's had the marking, but some of the a/t's did too, so that's not an indicator.
I don't think it's the shifter. Sometimes the check balls that engage the detents on the shift rails are missing. The shifter is just a lever and pivot that engages forks on the shift rail, and will not affect staying in gear. I'f pull the plugs and check the detent balls and springs.
Not responsible for advice not taken...

As far as I know ALL Gen 1 manuals have a neutral spot, and ALL Gen1 autos do not.
I'm sure someone could put a shifter handle from a manual into an auto though.
You've got other issues with your transmission dude.

Had a bad couple of days at work... Anyone who uses Pajero in his screen name deserves a fair shot.
