Okay the long story.
I replaced the transmission with a used one (transmission and transfer) but kept my original transfer case. If you put a transfer case with a neutral on a transmission that had a transfer case without a neutral, you get a combination where if you shift into 4L while in reverse, the transmission will pop into neutral...

So I need a shift lever from a transfer case without a neutral because the one on the used one was broken in half.

So I just need to know if someone can tell me what year Montero didn't have a neutral, so I can get a shift lever for the used transfer case and install it... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

We dont know if you have an auto, or a manual transmission first off.

Second... Only manual transmissions have transfer cases that have a "neutral" from the factory. Auto transmissions have a neutral spot, but there is no detent to keep it there. You can put a detent in that shifter rail, and make an auto trans transfer case have a neutral spot.

Sounds like youve got some other issues going on in there.

Auto, and manual transfer cases are not compatable.
