I really need some help picking out brake pads. Last year i went with the cheapest thing from autozone for my rear brake pads and under alot of downhill braking, i typically end up with zero braking ability. Its time to change out my front brake pads and rotors.

The problem is there are so many kinds...cermamic, metallic, organic, and then every auto retailer around me has subnames...like for napa, safetystop and truestop.

Money is def a consideration, i dont want to go over $60

Can someone recommend wear and what i should buy for my front pads?

I was thinking these, as akebono is suppose to make good brake pads

Either OEM or Napa Adaptive One's IMHO seem better than others I've tried for the front.

The EBC Greenstuff pads were the first set of pads I installed on my 95 SR. Compared to the pads that were on the vehicle when I purchased it, the EBC pads were only slightly better in braking under normal driving, but a lot better at holding up without fading on a long downhill when towing a 1200 lb non-brake equipped tent trailer. Keep in mind that I don't know what brand the previous pads were, but I've used the EBC pads exclusively since and have never had any braking issues.

wow, those are weird...how long do they last compared to other brakes?

The first set of pads I installed without turning the brake rotors (they were in good shape with no significant grooving or runout) and they lasted 28k miles. The next set I installed with new rotors all around, the rear pads lasted 35k miles and the fronts are still on there with 54k miles on them. When I had the first set on the Montero, I was towing our tent trailer up to Northern AZ at least once a month to go camping - going back and forth from the 1200' elevation in Phoenix to roughly 7500' elevation in the mountains where we camped apparently wore the brakes out far quicker than the next set which hasn't experienced nearly as much towing.

I typically buy whatever pads are on sale, For some reason the last time I bought front pads, picked up mid priced ceramics.

They are noticeably better. I really like 'em.
