Appears all of the play is in the box. The Steering column and shaft are good from what I can tell and the pitman arm and other lower components are tight. Is this fixable or replacement? Searched and found a few threads, but not much detail as to what has to be done to fix it.

Still drivable but I kinda feel like the dukes of hazard driving down the road with the wheel going side to side. javascript:void(0)

There's an adjustment screw on the top of the box. Set the steering wheel straight ahead. Loosen the lock nut and tighten the screw with a large flat blade screwdriver. If you get it too tight, the steering won't self center from a turn, so go easy. I twiddle the lower shaft as I tighten to feel the slack disappear...

Here is a pic of the box. Where is the adjustment screw?

That was it. I could not see the screw slot for all the grime that was in it. Unfortunately it appears that adjustment was already tweaked to it's MAX. I tried to tighten it some more to no avail. So the play is still there with no change.

My guess is the spline or receiver gear coming from the steering column have just worn to the point there will be significant play in the steering. Dang it Mitsubishi this truck only has 183K miles on it and stuff is already wearing out on it.

You did loosen the jam nut before trying to tighten it right? Mine was so grimed up I did not notice the jam nut.

Body Damage is Cool
There should be room to "twidle" still. Hard to believe it would be maxed out already. Mine was very hard to turn the 1st time I had to adjust it. I had to use long ratchet attached to a flat bit and a long extension to break mine free. It finally broke loose. Seems like I sprayed half a can of wd40 on it too.
