If it helps anyone, I was looking at other parts to fill up my order and Rock has one sealed power unit left at the time I post this.

In 95 the 3.0 Montero went to the 24V SOHC, along with the oil pump, I think you'll find that the water/oil passages for the heads do not match up with the block.

Hi, Jay, how've you been?

Sorry, never had a 3.0, so I'm no help. Good luck!

Justice,
I have verified that this is not the case with the water/oil passages. Everything lines up exactly as with the older 3.0L engines.

Guys,
does anyone one have an oil filter bracket that I can purchase from you? I need one badly. This is preventing my build from proceeding. I need part #3 plus the bolts to complete this build.

Can you take a picture that doesn't have the sun glaring behind it? I am trying to see all of the gasket, and its making my eyes bug out. Worst case, go back to the parts store and request another gasket if they have it in stock and compare them...

Sorry about the bad photo quality there StockRaider, I hope these images work out better.

This first image shows the block with the gasket for the original oil pump from my 1989 3.0L engine.

This second image shows the block with the gasket for a 1991 dodge caravan oil pump.

The only actual verification that I can find is this image of factory repair manual for a caravan.

Nevermind. I found one at my local salvage yard.

Okay guys, here is where this stands.

  • My Oil Pump Dilema,
  • My block is a 3.0L V6 from 1995-2000
  • The original oil pump from my 1989 V6 doesn't match the new engine block
  • Niether Montero Oil Pumps or Caravan Oil pumps match up
  • I need an oil pump for a 1995-2000 3.0L or 3.5L engine
  • The Oil Filter gets relocated and I needed to get the Oil Filter Bracket from the salvage yard
  • I suspect I will also need aditional items like the timing tensioner from that other engine
  • I also suspect I will have to modify the Plastic Timing Cover
  • At this point, I'm unsure if it will fit along with the A/C mounting bracket

I'll make sure I document this on the forum along with photographs.

Does anyone know the actual flow of oil through the 1989 3.0L engine including the oil filter? Does the oil pass through the filter first, then the cooler, then the engine?

I suppose I'm asking if anyone knows how this diagram would look for the 6G72?

Guys, does anyone here know that flow path of the oil? Specifically does the oil get pumped through the filter first? Then the oil cooler? finally the engine?

I need to custom fab a few new brackets for a remote oil filter and I'm hoping I can keep the Oil Cooler.

Dang guys,
These two engine blocks are not compatible. I was hoping to swap out these two blocks but the oil pump holes are in different locations and a lot of the mounting holes for the accessories are in different locations. I'll have to go back to the old 1989 block. Good Grief!!!
