Within the year, I will be moving to Australia. Needless to say, I want to take my SR with me!

First off, for the Aussies on the forum, what good info can you share with me? being over 15 years old, I think left hand drives are legal correct?

how much would the fees and import taxes be on a 1997 Montero with 110,000 miles on it?

what is the first step to starting this process? I think I have to apply for a vehicle import approval don't I?

also, what was the forum that is mainly members from Australia that members on here cross check every now and again?

I thought I would post on there, but I can't remember the name of the forum.

I guess at this point it would be appropriate to say

Cheers! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Try outerlimits4x4.

I know you've got a lot invested in your truck but keep in mind that Gas Diesel is opposite down there. Some fill stations especially inland do not have gasoline and it's more expensive overall, unless this is a forever move i'd mothball the SR (properly of course).

Just my opinion.

Congrats on the move! and have fun <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

its 3-6 years minimum; if the wife and I like it enough, it might be for good!

From what I've picked up on along the way, the OuterLimits site has quieted down and the posts are more on the Pajero 4WD Club of Victoria site (http://www2.pajeroclub.com.au).

Congrats on the move! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

You do have to have an import license for any vehicle. Clean it well including the grooves in the tires - no alien dirt allowed here.

Google your questions and you'll find that Australian government websites are informative. You might check out immigration requirements if you plan to become permanent residents.

Everything except beef and lamb is LOTS more expensive here. You might check ebay here for prices on stuff. If you're bringing a container, plan for the future well. Aside from cost, many things are hard to get. PM me if you'd like an email exchange on moving to OZ.

This is a Nanny state, approaching Big Brother. Any modifications to your car from stock require an engineering evaluation and certificate. $65AUD - I don't know if that's overall, or for each item. Different states have different rules.
