You can use a fine flat blade screwdriver to pry up the c-clip and then pull with pliers. The bearing retaining nut can be removed with a drift and light hammer taps.

im sorry for my ignorance but what is a "drift"

A punch.

Do a search for drift tool or punch tool.

ok, so is this what your talking about?

punch set? http://www.harborfreight.com/hand-tools/punches/8-piece-punch-set-93424.html

I think at this point its best for me to get in there (next weekend) and see what things look like, then ill have a better idea of the questions i need to ask to complete this job.

also, i dont necessarily need to replace the rotors, but since ive had the monty ive never replaced them and i dont know when the last time they were.

The last question id like to ask before i try this job is...will i need to re-grease anything, if so, what? and what type of grease.

thanks for the help

I use a black molybdenum hi-temp grease, says Disk Brake on the sleeve / container...I get both packages for dipping and my grease gun.

My use had mostly been highway driving, but you may consider another type of grease if your 'wheelin has lots of water involved.

So one more question i thought off while researching this...

you remove the lock nut with a drift tool and hammer but how on earth do you retighten it to the ridiculous value of 119ft/lb

I have used the time-worn adage of tightening to finger tight, spin the bearing to move everything around inside, then tighten slightly to set the bearing, lock down and go.

However, since I have the Mitsubishi tool for this, I can use my torque wrench now...on these trucks. For my Ramcharger, I'd buy the proper tool, too.

Just going to throw this out there, since my fronts have recently started the dreaded squeal. Looking to get better aftermarket rotors and pads somewhere. Searched EBC but they only offer pads. After hours of looking, it seems OEM is the only way to go unless someone has found a good aftermarket solution for better braking? (Read as UPGRADE, i.e. better braking power)

You tighted with the big special socket tool, which should be pic'd in the FSM. Most of use have gotten the GM 6-pin tool (3/4 ton? Can't recall for sure) and ground off four pins. You can get them at most corner parts stores for ~$15.
