The 119ft/lb is to pre-load the bearings. You don't leave there. Read the FSM all the way through. You set the pre-load, back off until loose, tighten again to something way less, and then another quarter turn. (Or something to that effect.)

What Eddy was talking about above was doing it by feel without the pre-load.

omg snap ring snap ring snap ring!!!

i went to go out to get a look at how things come off, in preparation for when i change the rotors this weekend.

That stupid snapring gave me so much darn trouble. I bought some snap ring pliers, but the snapring doesnt have the circle ends for the snapring pliers to fit into??? The utube videos i watched on how to remove a snapring all that those holes on the end for the snapring pliers to fit into making the job very easy...i finally gave up on the pliers and just used a flat head screwdriver, but it was harder then heck to put back on, and i bent the snapring too much

so, can someone please detail the most efficient way to remove this snapring, and maybe shoot me a link to the correct snap ring pliers i should be using

Thanks

You can use a fine flat blade screwdriver to pry up the c-clip and then pull with pliers.

Said this awhile ago...

i may not be mechanically inclined but i do read what everyone posts smile

that is how i finally got it off, but that method seemed really difficult to put it back on

There are snap ring pliers with flat tips that I've seen work well when used with a screwdriver. IIRC it was Cap510 that has a pair. Sorry I don't recall if they were a bargain harbor freight pair or a quality craftsman pair...

Right, flat tipped ones. They will have grooves on the faces of the tips like a file that help hold the pointed edges of the snap ring.

The small screw drive works fine, but takes a little longer to work it off. I used to do that until I had to buy the pliers for my 2.85s install. Now I am glad i have the pliers.

I'm honestly, sincerely not trying to be an or discourage you by saying this, but if the snap ring gave you that much trouble, you might want to allow more than a weekend for this. I believe it took novice me at least 2 weekends, but everything was terribly rusted together, and I also meticulously cleaned and repacked the bearings.

All of my hub-to-rotor bolts were in terrible shape. Took several hours with an impact gun and huge breaker bar to get those off.

My rotors were rusted solid to the hub assembly, I laid the whole thing flat on a wooden plank, and ran a lag bolt with a huge washer (i used a circ saw blade for extra danger) down through the center to secure it to the plank. Then I spent eternity in a cloud of PB blaster, heating the rotor with propane torch and pounding it with a massive sledge hammer. It sucked, but it worked.

It's not the easiest job but I did learn a lot. And it sure brakes nice now! Best of luck!
