omg snap ring snap ring snap ring!!!

i went to go out to get a look at how things come off, in preparation for when i change the rotors this weekend.

That stupid snapring gave me so much darn trouble. I bought some snap ring pliers, but the snapring doesnt have the circle ends for the snapring pliers to fit into??? The utube videos i watched on how to remove a snapring all that those holes on the end for the snapring pliers to fit into making the job very easy...i finally gave up on the pliers and just used a flat head screwdriver, but it was harder then heck to put back on, and i bent the snapring too much

so, can someone please detail the most efficient way to remove this snapring, and maybe shoot me a link to the correct snap ring pliers i should be using
