I bought a Rugged Ridge 10k winch with a steel cable. Great winch so far, but haven't really tested it to its limits yet. I did pull the Montero backwards I was using as a test point.

THANKS SO MUCH TO EVERYONE who posted here.

I get stuck once a year, three times a year is I have a really fun year. In the name of frugality I got a Vortex 8000# winch for $279 shipped to my door off of ebay. It will pull me out- that is my Raider, don't care/worry about line speed.

I will report back per quality/service etc.
